Characteristics

The new reconfigured Metropolitan Golf course was opened for play in May 2010. Lying in the shadow of Table Mountain and the Cape Town Stadium, the course belies the 9 hole status. A modern course groomed and designed to the highest standards of the best 18-holers, this historic club occupies a unique position in Cape Town close to the Waterfront, overlooked by Signal Hill. The world class greens beautiful manicured fairways make the course an enjoyment to play but still offer a stern test for the lower handicapper.

The course is parkland in design with Bent Grass greens and Kikuyu fairways. Four different local grass species have been planted in various areas of the rough, giving the course a very distinctive look. The course is well protected from the prevailing winds and his facilitates the ability to keep the course in superb playing condition. The course designer, Mark Muller, has created something of real significance, and this a “must be played” course.

The signature holes are the long par five 12th towards the Mouille Point Lighthouse, and the closing par three 18th over water.
