Characteristics

Monkstown Golf Club was founded in 1908. The work of Scottish Head Green-keeper since 1990 has provided Monkstown with one of the finest mature parkland courses in Munster. The club extended to 18-holes in 1972 and carried out a major re-bunkering program in the early nineties, plus the introduction of some interesting water features on the back nine, has improved both the challenge and the aesthetics of the Course.Prior to 1972 the clubhouse was a Castle, built in 1636, which is still standing. The new clubhouse was extended in 1994 offering the golfer every amenity the golfer could require. The front nine gives the golfer fabulous views of Cork Harbour, together with a variety of holes that will test the best of golfers. The back nine has some of the toughest finishing holes to be found anywhere in Ireland. The 17th 392 m Par 4 index 1 is followed by 377 m Par 4 index 7, these two holes have destroyed many a seemingly good card.

Visitors to Monkstown Golf Club are assured of a warm welcome and a memorable game of golf. Societies are welcome and group rates are available. Voted the No. 85-ranked golf course in Ireland, by “Golf Digest Ireland” in 2008.
