Characteristics

This course opened for play in 1905 and runs along a three-mile stretch of beach next to a beautiful lagoon on Sheephaven Bay. It is said the game of golf was played here not long after the setting-up of the Old Course at St Andrews and, indeed, the first record game took place in 1896.

Six holes have been reconstructed recently and a few minor alterations to the course have taken place in recent weeks, but the gist of Vardons design hasnt been altered too greatly. In addition to the challenge, there are great views of the Derryveagh Mountain to the south and Horn Head to the north.
