Characteristics
This 36-hole Championship golf course is ideally located near Cardiff, set in the beautiful Vale of Glamorgan countryside with amazing views and awash with site seeing places to visit.
Visitors and Groups are made most welcome and as you drive through the majestic entrance you will see the signs for yourself welcoming visitors. Alongside the entrance is a beautiful and very traditional Thatched Cottage with its own inviting garden and waterfall feature. On your way down the drive you become instantly aware of the fantastic views across the Mackintosh Course flanking both sides of the kilometre long driveway.
Cottrell Park’s mission is to welcome its guests with a smile, be friendly and helpful at all times and present their services and facilities immaculately.
Each Course offers a different challenge to all categories of Golfer, both of which are constructed with USGA spec Greens ensuring you are guaranteed a great day out all year round.
The Mackintosh Course
A true parkland course with mature trees up to 300 years old. This par 72-championship course provides a good challenge for all categories of golfer. The course is well manicured and provides 6,356 challenging yards off the white tees and has been designed around the original features of the rolling parkland, including a Roman Motte. The course layout is well designed and slightly undulating with four Par 5’s, four Par 3’s and ten Par 4’s making the Mackintosh a well thought out and balanced course.
The Button Gwinnett Course
With an American theme the Button Gwinnett Course is equipped with 13 lakes and ponds spread over 18 holes. This Championship standard Course boasts spectacular views across the Brecon Beacons and requires accuracy as well as length. The last three holes have been newly designed with a fantastic lake on the finishing hole just before the Green and overlooked by the clubhouse and marquee, making you study your second shot!
Other facilities include two three dimensional golf simulators. Two Putting Greens, Practice Area and fully Stocked Golf Service Department and a comfortable and friendly Clubhouse in which to relax after your game. Some exciting new activities were introduced in 2011 which are ideal for a family day out. These includes its own private nature trail, fishing, snooker & pool and not forgetting the state of the art golf simulators!
The Clubhouse offers a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere, in which you can unwind after a hard day’s work or play and there is an extensive bar menu available throughout the day to tempt you. The sports lounge overlooking the patio and 18th green of the Button Gwinnett course, constructed late in 2008, has proved very popular with members and visitors alike with stand tables, chairs and Sky TV. This room is perfect for discussing your successes or disappointments after your game whilst enjoying a hearty meal and beverage of your choice.
Due to the high level of maintenance the courses can sustain the bleaker winter months and is renowned as one of the best draining parkland courses in South Wales with members from other clubs taking advantage when their own courses are closed.
At Cottrell Park, golfers play off summer tees, fairways and greens throughout the year! Add to that the massive amount of investment ploughed back into the resort both on and off the courses, you have to admit Cottrell is definitely in the ‘Must Visit’ column when arranging your short breaks and away days.
